Truth be told I’m not a great cook. On a regular week night we typically have grilled or baked chicken with roasted sweet potatoes and some green beans. Quick and easy but far from exciting. When Garrett was deployed I was cooking solely for myself and therefore I could cook once and eat for a week. And when it’s just you, you don’t seem to care quite as much as long as you eat (especially with a crying baby in the next room)!
Halloween is officially over which means I can now listen to Christmas music without shame (and if you still think it’s too early I’m sorry but it’s who I am and I can’t change)!!! One of the best things about the holidays is of course the food! My momma’s Chex mix is one of my all-time favorites, just the smell floods my mind with all kinds of childhood memories! Seriously no summer or holiday season was without this Chex Mix y’all, it’s a family favorite that I hope to pass along with my kids one day!
I LOVE almond, I mean I really love it. I’ll let you in on a weird secret I have: sometimes I randomly go to the cabinet, get out the almond extract, and just smell it, because it smells so dadgum good! Give me all the strange looks you want, that scent is heavenly!
So naturally I love these almond cookies!
So it’s that time of year! We all bake and my mom is no exception. She makes around 13 (yes really that many) different types of Christmas treats each season!
These chocolate mint crackle cookies are just as their name suggests: chocolate, minty, fudgy goodness that will melt in your mouth! And one of the great things about them is most of the work is already done for you because the first ingredient is boxed cake mix!
Well I definitely thought two things about this recipe: 1) that it was a family recipe and 2) that I had been eating it at every Thanksgiving for my whole life. I was wrong about both! It is a Paula Deen recipe and we’ve only been eating it since 2006 (but apparently it’s so good that it transformed my memories).
