DIY Barn Wood Picture Display

When I started to create products for The Print Shop I wanted a place where I could display them 1. to keep me motivated & 2. I needed something on those freshly painted walls! I wanted to be able to easily switch things out and frames were not going to allow that!

After reading this post from Shanty 2 Chic I got the idea for the diy barn wood picture display and so off to Hobby Lobby I went! The barn wood bundles are their best kept secret! With a 40% off coupon they cost just under $5 (happy dances occurred!)

I also got some bulldog clip from the scrapbooking section and command strips. The other supply not pictured is E6000 glue, I swear it could hold a car bumper on.

I measured out the distance I wanted the clips to be placed and glue them with the E6000 glue. They’ll be able to be moved around for the first hour or so, you’ll want to leave the boards flat in a low traffic area until the next day.

Now when it came time to use the command strips they had no problem sticking to the wall but I had issues getting it to stick to the wood. So E6000 reentered the pictured… I glued the command strips to the wood (NOT the wall!) and let that sit for day as well.

So far they’re holding up! I’m not 100% how it’ll go if I ever need to take them down but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it!

UPDATE: I took them down when this room because our guest room and they came off surprisingly easy!

They’re working out perfectly for the purpose that I intended them but I can even see them being used to display the art that sweet little fingers have made!

Until next time,

  1. These are so awesome!! I have been looking for a similar solution for my kids artwork and these look perfect!! I so miss hobby lobby…. we just moved and now it is an hour away… sniff…

  2. What a super easy and gorgeous display! I love it! Thanks for sharing at Merry Monday. I’m thinking this would be great for displaying my kids’ artwork.

  3. What a fun idea! I love projects that require very little like this one. With three boys at home the ones that I actually do have to be quick and easily attainable. I NEVER knew that Hobby Lobby had barnwood…I have been looking for an idea of a craft project to do with my Noonday party girls and this might be it – I might just have to use a different glue for the clips so they’d dry faster. 🙂

    1. I love Noonday!!! I’d love to see pictures if y’all make it!!! Hot glue didn’t work sadly but maybe super glue or gorilla glue could work!
