Sometimes when people come over to our house I wish that they could see our home the way it looks in my head. The reality of our home and the way I view it are totally different because when I see it, I see all the possibilities of what could be done if I had unlimited time and money.
When we first moved into our home I had no idea what I was doing decorating wise so now that I’m starting to figure it out I’m s l o w l y transferring all our rooms over to something that I love! You can read more on that in my What I’ve Learned post. And right now the office is the room I’m most unhappy with.
I’m girl who likes to write, draw, and rewrite out a plan of action (just ask my husband if you don’t believe me). I’m a visual girl but I’m better visualizing when I can do it on paper (or a computer screen) and not just my head.
So I played around a little bit and came up with the picture above as a plan for our office. Here’s what it currently looks like:
Now I certainly don’t hate it. It definitely needs to be spruced up a bit and it doesn’t really go with any other rooms in the house plus it is a tiny room! That dark olive paint color doesn’t help with the crowded feeling either. So the plan is to paint the walls white. Why white? 2 reasons: 1. I love white, it’s fresh, calm and I’m hoping it’ll make the room feel larger and b. I have 3 gallons of white paint in my garage so I won’t have to buy or pick out another color.
What’s funny is that Garrett thought that room would be his man cave when we bought our house but boy was he wrong! I’ve definitely taken over this room, it’s become my work area for the blog, my crafting area for small crafts plus where I store all my supplies and most importantly it houses the chair that I do my quiet time in most mornings. So I really would love to walk into the room feeling refreshed and inspired and I’m just not feeling that right now. I probably won’t really get going on the room until the new year but I thought I’d share my plans for fun and so you can hold me accountable! Although, I do have my filing cabinet in the garage just waiting for me to have a day where I can paint it!
Below I’ve added the links where you can find some of the pieces in the picture in case you’d like them for yourself!
lamp (I have a lamp that I plan on painting to replicate this one)
map (I already own one that is similar from a couple years ago) / lamp ( I already have a lamp that I’m wanting to paint to resemble this one)
corkboard (I’m wanting to make my own and this pic came from Pinterest but I found a similar one for sale here
Our desk is a hand-me-down from my sister that I plan on keeping but I’m not sure if it’ll stay black or if I’ll end up painting it! And the wood table that goes over the filing cabinet and has the printer on top I plan on building.
So there are the plans for an office makeover! I’m ready to make it a reality but it’ll have to wait until after the holiday madness!
Until next time,
